Its most common appearance is that of an elevated, overhanging wooden upper-story nipa hut that stands on Spanish-style solid stone blocks or bricks and posts as foundation instead of just wood, bamboo stilts, or timber posts. Thus created was a hybrid of Austronesian, Spanish, and Chinese architecture.

Its design has evolved throughout the ages, but still maintains the bahay kubo's architectural basis which corresponds to the tropical climate, stormy season, and earthquake-prone environment of the whole archipelago of the Philippines and fuses it with the influence of Spanish colonizers and Chinese traders. It is an updated version of the traditional bahay kubo. Ask to be dropped off at town proper of Balaoan, from there take a tricycle ride to town proper of Luna then another tric ride to bahay na bato.Bahay na bato is a type of building originating during the Philippines' Spanish Colonial Period. So so nice 🤗 When planning to commute from Baguio City, take a bus to either Abra, Vigan or Laoag (bus terminal is located at Gov Pac below SM city). Everything in this place is amazing, i can't really find the perfect words to describe them so i really suggest you visit it 😊😊 TIP: Wait for the sunset by the beach. Inside the house itself, there's a refreshment area that serves drinks, chips and ice cream. It's so amazing how they actually shaped the rocks, very detailed, fine and nothing but spectacular. Accordingly, the place is owned by a couple from Baguio City and the sculptor is a Korean.

General admission is 20 pesos while kids under 4 years old are free of charge. The area is around 2 and a half to 3 hours drive from Baguio City and is located near the beach area. We were pushed to visit this very intriguing place since it's one of the most talked about tourists spots in the Northern Philippines atm. At the National Highway (aka Manila North Road), take the right, go past Bacnotan and that will take you back to San Fernando or San Juan. At the main intersection, take the right going to Balaoan, La Union. From the attraction's exit, take the left, go straight until you reach the town proper of Luna. On your way back to San Fernando City, La Union or San Juan, take the route via Luna Town proper. The signage of the attraction is on the left side. Go past the Darigayos Cove, and if you want some assurance you're on the right track, ask any of the locals on the roadside for directions and they are more than willing to help. Take the route going westward till you see the Holcim Cement Factory near the Bacnotan coastal road, take the right and head north for about 15 kilometers.

At the Bacnotan town proper look for the roadsign of Holcim Cement on the left. It's the town after San Juan, La Union, famous for surfing. Recommended route to the attraction is via Bacnotan, La Union. It was worth the hour's drive sans traffic from San Fernando City, La Union. However, the designers made good use of the stones as the main construction material in combination with the artistic rock creations of a Korean national helping the property owners in developing the attraction. The house of stone (bahay na bato in Tagalog or balay nga bato in Ilocano) is really just a basic structure with no partitions in the interiors. A real unique attraction that made use of the abundance of beach pebbles in the area.
